Education

The Molecular Plant Breeding CRC's Education and Training Program will ensure that Australia's cropping and pasture industries are internationally competitive by developing excellent plant breeders who use innovative biotechnologies and who enjoy strong community support.

The Education and Training Program focuses on 3 main areas:

1. Community and schools
MPB aims to increase the awareness and understanding of both molecular and conventional plant breeding and its relationship to Australian agriculture within the community.

2. Tertiary education
MPB seeks input into the teaching of plant breeding and plant biotechnology at undergraduate level, as well as provide opportunities, scholarships, support and training for postgraduate students.

3. MPB Training
MPB develops and delivers professional development programs for the plant breeding industries.

Get into Genes

The Molecular Plant Breeding CRC's Education Program, in association with the Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics, provides a series of workshops for high school students called '
Get into Genes'.

Get into Genes is an interactive biotechnology education program that highlights the latest technologies and techniques used in molecular plant breeding programs. Get into Genes has been developed especially for secondary school students and teachers. Each workshop has curriculum links and is well aligned to SACE Stage 2 Biology and VCE Biology Units 3 and 4.
