We offer more than just dough
As an MPB student, you will gain access to a network of leading scientists throughout Australia with strong international links, and participate in ongoing professional development training in areas such as media and intellectual property management. Your work will be focused on industry relevant issues - solving real world problems.
Our PhD students receive up to $25,000 (tax free) per annum, plus additional operating funds, and $2,500 towards an international study tour. | |

Undergraduate research scheme
The Undergraduate Research Scheme is available to students in the second or third year of their undergraduate degree who would like to gain real research experience. The research can be undertaken either through the summer holidays, or at another time depending on the project and supervisor. The total duration of the project is equivalent to five to six weeks full-time work. The Undergraduate Research Scheme provides several benefits to students, including:
- work placement or experience that can count towards degree requirements
- participation in cutting edge and industry-relevant research
- access to a network of scientists
- experience with techniques and equipment
- introduction to the research environment
- financial support ($2,000)
Examples of projects from previous years include:
- Metabolic reprogramming of flavonoid pathway in white clover plants to generate plants for enhanced nutritional value and environmental health
- Validation of molecular markers linked to boron tolerance on chromosome 4H of barley
- Science communication: communicating the outcomes of MPB research
- Molecular mapping in a wide barley cross
- Identification and characterisation of genes involved in meiosis in wheat
- Making and maintaining genetic maps: data analysis and curation
- Genetic diversity of barley scald (Rhynchosporium secalis) isolates.

Honours scholarships
Honours scholarships are available to students undertaking their Honours research projects within MPBCRC. Benefits to students include:
